VASUK “Banking on your horses chance of optimised healing of tendon, ligament and joint injuries”

PART 1

Autologous Platelet collection for equine regenerative treatments. A 45 minute event to collect a single (3x1011) or double (6x1011) unit of platelet rich plasma (PRP) from an individual horse that requires immediate regenerative treatment, or for storage in case of future injury in horses.

Each unit will be divided using a specially designed sterile separator system into 10-30 aliquots of platelet rich plasma for immediate use or for frozen storage as platelet lysate (PL) for 2-5 years dependant on storage conditions and intended use. PRP/PL can be used for many purposes, but most commonly for joint and tendon injuries, where it is injected directly into the site of injury.

This is an autologous service. Collected PRP/PL are to be used in the treatment of the animal they are sourced from. The service has been developed under guidance from the UK Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD). This service can only be accessed by registered veterinary surgeons. Clients should contact their veterinary surgeon to request them to access the service.

VAS's mission for injured horses is to provide exceptional quality apheresis components mirroring human quality standards for our clients (veterinary surgeons) so they can provide advanced therapies for their patients to look to improve clinical outcome and reduce the time for return of horses to full fitness as well as competition.

We envisage that the service will be of relevance to all horses but especially competition horses across all disciplines.

Please contact the service to book a collection or for further information click here.
